Hall Runners

Where to use a runner rug

Hallway

Runner rugs are often referred to as hall runners with this being their most common use for a rug of this style. Whether your hallway is a short space from the laundry to the back door or a long billowing federation-style hallway with multiple bedrooms veering off either side a hall runner can work for your home. A hall runner from the front door can often be a good directional tool to help guide your guests through the house to the areas you intend them to go. For example, your hall runner might go past all of the bedrooms and lead out into the living room.

Kitchen

Be it a galley kitchen or a grand kitchen with a large island bench a runner can really help to bring the space together.
Our vinyl runners are a very popular choice for kitchens. Not only do they look amazing, they’re also very easy to clean making them a popular choice for busy homes.
Vinyl mats are available in a range of sizes and styles. The most common sizes for a kitchen floor runner include 80cm x 195cm and 80cm x 240cm.

Bedroom

Runners can be useful in a bedroom alongside or in front of your bed. They can also be placed in front of your dresser or inside a walk in robe.
For those looking for something soft underfoot our carpet style patterned runner rugs are perfect. These are available in two standard sizes and they can also be cut to size by the metre so you can tailor your runner to suit the size of your bedroom.

Living room

Runner rugs can be used in narrow areas of your living room such as a thoroughfare behind the sofa or connecting one area of the room to another.
Our patterned runners or jute runners are the most popular choices for these areas of the home.

Hall runners on carpet

Our patterned hall runner collection can absolutely be used on carpet.
These hall runner rugs are available in two standard sizes and selected styles can be cut to size to suit your space.
Hallways are high traffic areas of your home. These thoroughfares see a lot of action in family homes with kids and pets. Over time it’s common for the wall-to-wall carpet to wear down faster in your hallway than other areas of the home. A hall runner is not only a great way to protect your carpet but also cover any blemishes and wear your carpet may have already suffered.
A rug underlay is a great way to prevent damage to your wall-to-wall carpet. This adds a layer of protection and grip between the rug and the carpet.
These are readily available in stores like Spotlight, Bunnings and Ikea. Underlays are easy to cut to size so you can tailor yours to the size you need for your runner. An underlay will also help to prevent your runner from moving around on your carpet.

What size runner for a hallway.

Choosing the right size runner for your hallway is fairly simple.
No matter how long your hallway is your runner should fit comfortably between one entry point and what you see to be the end of the hall.
A runner leading from the entrance of your home can start right at the front door or you might want to leave space for a doormat first then start your runner a meter or so past this point.
If you have a very long hallway to work with you could choose an extra-long hall runner to go the full length of your hall or perhaps choose two matching runners in shorter lengths. Some prefer this option as it creates a visual break and helps to make the space feel less extensive.

Hall runners cut to size.

A selection of our hall runners are able to be cut to size. These runners are available in custom metre lengths. When purchasing one of these runners simply add the number of metres you need in the quantity before adding the item to your cart.
If you’re unsure how to order a hall runner by the metre please feel free to contact us and one of our team would be happy to help.

Matching your doormat to your hall runner.

If you’re using a doormat inside your front door and would like a hall runner close by you might think about having a mat that matches your hall runner.
This look can be easily achieved with our jute collection. These rugs are available in runners as well as matching doormats.

Which style runner to choose.

We have three main styles of hall runners. Jute runners, carpet style hall runners or vinyl floor runners. Each of these have different qualities you may be looking for in a runner.

Vinyl Runners

Vinyl runners are a fabulous option for use on cement or wooden floors.
The most common areas our customers use vinyl floor runners are inside the front door, in a galley kitchen or laundry. These mats are ideal for areas that are prone to need frequent cleaning like the kitchen as they are easily wiped down. No need to worry if you drop some pasta sauce on the floor while cooking, all you need is a damp cloth and your kitchen runner is good as new.
Vinyl runners are not recommended for use on carpet.

Carpet style runners

These runners are best suited for use in areas where you would like to add a little warmth and softness underfoot such as a hallway or bedroom.
Available in a range of sizes and designs they can be used on wooden or carpet floors.

Jute Runners

Jute hall runners are a great way to add natural warmth and texture to a space.
Made from natural materials our jute runners are available in weave styles. These runners are a great options for coastal, bohemian or Hamptons style homes. Our jute runners have a natural rubber backing helping them to keep in place on your floor and improve the long term structure of the rug.
These runners can be used on carpet however they are best suited to wooden floors.
