Our guide to upcycling furniture

If you've ever wanted to make-over an old piece of furniture with a fresh new look, there’s no better time to start!

The process is easier than you might think, with Jolie chalk effect paint requiring little to no preparation to achieve great results. The quick-dry matte paint is easy to work with, and you can easily start and finish a project in a day.

We love that these paints are water based, low VOC, and non toxic. They have little to no smell, so you can even paint inside (with a drop sheet of course!).

Ask the following questions before you start

When deciding if a piece of furniture is a good candidate for a paint makeover, take a closer look at the piece and ask the following questions:

  • does it have good, sound structure?
  • can I use it somewhere else in the house?
  • will a new paint colour bring it up to date?

If the answer is yes, all that’s left to do is pick a colour and start!

We have everything you need to get started including paints, brushes and finishes.

Not only is painting your furniture cheaper than buying new, but you will be saving your much-loved pieces of furniture from land fill too.

What kind of materials can you paint?

  • Wood (*teak and eucalyptus not recommended)
  • Previously painted and waxed surfaces
  • Metal (*powder coated not recommended)
  • Matte plastics
  • Brick
  • Concrete
  • Stone
